The past two years shifted every business and made people adapt to a “new normal”. Wearing mask, social distancing and staying home were the slogans of every day life. How did effect newborn photography? In a lot of ways: from being closed for some time, rescheduling many photo sessions and getting back in safely handling newborn babies.
One of my top priorities is my client’s safety and well being. It means monitoring not only my health but health of my family members and be vigilant about cleaning studio space and props. I am the only person that goes to the studio to eliminate unnecessary exposure.
Do you have a mask? Do you wear a mask during your newborn session? These were all valid and popular questions that clients would ask me. My answers are always: yes and yes! I would everything I can to keep studio environment healthy.
Baby Kayson’s family came to for newborn photo session in September of 2020 and chose to show off their custom made mask for the occasion. I always welcome memorabilia brought by family. This image was meant as a reminder of times we live in. We did take photos without masks as well to show off family’s beautiful faces.
Was I wearing a mask? I was!
Special newborn images
Kayson is a rainbow baby for this family and we also had to incorporate this in a session. A rainbow baby is a name coined for a healthy baby born after losing a baby due to miscarriage, infant loss, stillbirth, or neonatal death. The name “rainbow baby” comes from the idea of a rainbow appearing in the sky after a storm, or after a dark and turbulent time.
Newborn session progress
What pandemic could not change is how I approach my newborn sessions. Every moment is concentrated on the baby and I follow close to baby’s ques. We go through several set ups, take breaks for feeding and changing, also some cuddling involved. One of the most rewarding parts of the session is always images parents anticipate the most. Kayson’s dad is a huge 49th fan and I had to document it. Did you know there is a vendor who makes all kinds of sports outfits for newborns? Check them out https://no2willowlane.com/ I had ordered this sweet outfit specifically for this photo session.
